Honey Sesame Chicken Wings
Before I went to nutrition school and cleaned up my diet, chicken wings were one of my favorite indulgence foods. They are also something I never have anymore that I actually miss, and when a client recently told me that they are her weakness too, I knew I needed to make a cleaned up version. So here is the non-deep fried, gluten-free, mostly guilt free version. Enjoy!
Ingredients:
2 lbs Chicken Wings (use organic, pastured chicken if possible)
2 tsp Baking Powder, aluminum free
1 tsp Avocado Oil
2 Tbsp Tamari
2 Garlic (cloves, minced)
2 tsp Ginger (minced)
2 Tbsp Raw Honey
1 tsp Sesame Oil
2 tsp Sesame Seeds, Toasted
1/4 tsp Chili Powder (optional)
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 400F (204ºC) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, add the chicken wings, baking powder and avocado oil. Mix until the wings are coated. Spread the wings out on the baking sheet evenly and bake for 35 to 40 minutes.
In a small saucepan over medium-low heat add the tamari, garlic and ginger. Sauté for 1 to 2 minutes, then add the honey and heat over low heat until the sauce reduces slightly, approximately 3 to 4 minutes. Remove from the heat and add the sesame oil.
In a large bowl, toss the chicken wings with the sauce to coat. Garnish with sesame seeds. Serve and enjoy!
